In a poignant expression of belonging and gratitude, I performed a symbolic kiss to the ground on the first floor of the Stow building, my home within the Glasgow School of Art. This act serves as a deeply personal homage to the rich tapestry of experiences that have shaped my artistic journey. The Stow building, with its vibrant atmosphere, is not just a space where I create; it is a sanctuary that fosters connection, inspiration, and growth.
Surrounded by extraordinary lecturers and fellow colleagues who challenge and uplift me, I find myself continuously drawn to this environment. Each day spent within these walls nurtures my creativity, enabling me to explore new ideas and push the boundaries of my work. This performance celebrates those relationships and the sense of community that has been integral to my time here.
As I lowered myself to the ground, I embraced the weight of my journey - the trials, triumphs, and moments of self-discovery that have led me here. By kissing the ground, I honored the very foundation that supports not only my practice but also the diverse voices and stories that weave together to create our shared artistic narrative.
This gesture of reverence signifies a personal homecoming - a reminder that the journey is as important as the destination. Through this performance, I invite the audience to reflect on their own notions of home and the spaces that hold significance in their lives, urging them to acknowledge the connections that ground them in their own artistic explorations.
